Written Communication

NovaLeaf’s written communication courses are designed to help students become outstanding formal writers. Our two main courses are: formal writing for business, and academic essay writing.

Formal writing for business will cover such topics as: business e-mails, cover letters, and letters of complaint. As e-mail is one of the most common ways to communicate with professional colleagues, special focus will be given to digital communication.

Topics include:

– Grammar and Punctuation
– Outlining and Formatting
– Business Writing and Editing
– Business Letters
– Cover Letters
– Letters or Inquiry or Complaint

University students need strong writing skills to properly state, and support, their ideas. Our academic writing courses were created to help students develop their ideas from rough outline to a properly formatted finished paper. Our instructors teach students to turn their ideas into finished university papers, starting with a thesis statement and ending with a well written, edited and cited academic essay.

Topics include:

– Grammar and Punctuation
– Writing Academic Paragraphs
– Thesis Statements and Outlines
– Formatting and Essay Writing
– Editing, Revising and Citing Sources

Meet Our Teachers

David Caldwell

I’m an immigrant too–an American, now living in Canada. I’ve taught ESL for nearly five years in Canada, the US and South Korea, helping students of all ages learn to be confident in their English skills. My lessons teach practical speaking skills, and I look forward to helping students live, study and work in Canada. I also have years of experience as a writer, and I look forward to helping students improve their English writing skills as well.
